though i've gotten some work done on the next pending update to this story, actually finishing that update has recently been taking a backseat to a worldbuilding project for this setting -- a compendium of the lore behind the core playable species of the glitterverse. here's a snippet of what's to come

"High elf philosophy greatly values facts above much else, though it acknowledges that complete objectivity is unattainable. Emotion is not unwelcome in high elven thinking, but it too is to be rationalised, traced back to its first roots -- and indeed, many high elves seem to have a singular fascination with the origins of all things, turning their hyperconscious minds toward the chase of the thousand thousand causes that unfold into any one effect. 

High elves are also commonly associated with magics of the flesh, for they were among the leading pioneers of homunculus-craft and made extensive use of it in the foundation of their empire. Humans looked to the creatures around them and saw ways to tame and breed them into beasts of burden; high elves instead studied the animals around them to death -- often literally -- until they understood how to replicate those features from the ground up with their vivaturgy, crafting new creatures of their own.

The high elven capital city, Vitruvius Lex, was built first on the backs of servile homunculus-beasts, and then around them. Cleaner-worms wind beneath the porcelain floors and tiny stewards scurry behind the marble walls; white tile and gold trim conceal the constructed laborers that race through the innards of the city like blood through veins. Shoggoths, as a matter of fact, originated as servants engineered by high elves, who continued to keep them as unpaid servants even after the discovery that they were sapient. The shoggoths emerged victorious from the subsequent uprising, and Vitruvius Lexian homunculists are careful not to make their creations too clever to avoid a repeat of that incident. Particularly heinous high elves view the shoggoths as living marks of their shame, but many others have since made active reparation efforts with the people their empire once exploited."
